American rapper Snoop Dogg has had a visit from a Melbourne firefighting crew, after an alarm went off in his smoke-filled hotel room.
Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus and goes variously by the names Snoop Lion, Snoopadelic and Snoopzilla, is in town to play at the Big Day Out music festival.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Fire Brigade says "smoke from an unidentified source" triggered the alarm in Snoop Dogg's room.
The fire crew was attending another call-out in the five-star city hotel when they responded to the false alarm in the rapper's room.
"The guys were thrilled to meet him," the spokeswoman said.
"The duty station officer didn't know who he was at first. He later sent in a photo and his kids were thrilled."
She says no further action will be taken against Snoop.
"We've had a lot of fun with this," she said.
"It's also an opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of having a working fire alarm."
A Rastafarian since 2012, Snoop is well known for his love of marijuana.
On Thursday he posted a photo of himself online smoking, and sitting beside a large bowl of cannabis, in the Palazzo Versace hotel on the Gold Coast.
The photo has since been removed from Snoop's Instagram account.

Plus Size Model Controversy: Magazine Angers Internet Over Definitions of Beauty

Have you ever had to convince your girlfriend or wife that she’s beautiful? Have you ever yourself felt ugly or inadequate because of the perceived definitions of beauty that magazines and media shove into our faces everyday? Despite having tons of make-up and obvious photoshopped pictures, we’re all still buying into the big corporations’ definitions of beauty, only for them to sell us more make-up, more expensive clothes, more overpriced jewelry, more unnecessary accessories and so much more crap.
Below is a photo posted by a magazine that had caught fire online. Internet users were outraged at the magazine’s definition of “Plus Sized Model” as they describe a perfectly normal looking / beautiful woman in the photo.
The magazine’s caption read:
“Plus-size supermodel Robyn Lawley is BEYOND in this sexy swim shoot for Cosmo Australia”

Comments that followed were priceless! Our favorite was:
“Dear (magazine),
Kindly take your ideas of “plus size” and shove them up your a$$ sideways.
Sincerely,
Every man on the planet who has had to reassure his perfectly healthy and proportioned woman she’s not fat because a-holes like you perpetuate this idea in her head that she’s “plus size.”

Mother drops from 16st to 9st so she's healthy enough to give her child, 9, part of her liver

'I lost 7st to save my son's life': Mother drops from 16st to 9st so she's healthy enough to give her child, 9, part of her liver

Charlene Howard, 33, lost 7st when she was told that her son, Elliot, now nine, had liver disease and might eventually need to be given part of her liver. She dropped from 16st 7lbs (left) to 9st 5lbs (right)

  • Charlene Howard, 33, dropped from a size 18 to a size eight when she was told Elliot had liver disease and might eventually need a transplant
  • She lost the weight by revolutionising her diet and starting to exercise
  • She is now healthy enough to save her son whenever he needs it
  • Elliot has cystic fibrosis and also received treatment for a brain tumour when he was a toddler - it's not known if the liver disease is related
  •
She would not have been well enough to give her son part of her liver while she was classified as morbidly obese.

Ms Howard, from Wolverhampton, told MailOnline: ‘Elliot is a reason to keep the weight off – every time I take him to hospital it gives me a little reminder.
‘I would do anything for him – I just want him to be happy. It’s hard because I am a single mum but I just try to do my best for him.’

Ms Howard, a finance underwriter, started to pile on the pounds when Elliot was one.
Before his birth she weighed about 12st, but she gained weight rapidly when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 18 months old.
Elliot, now nine, spent a year in Birmingham Children’s Hospital while he had surgery and chemotherapy.

Man jailed for slapping toddler on plane

A US man has been sentenced to eight months jail after slapping a crying toddler who was sitting next to him on a plane.
Joe Rickey Hundley pleaded guilty to simple assault after hitting the 19-month-old as their plane descended into Atlanta on a flight from Minneapolis on February 8, NY Daily News reports.
The little boy was sitting on the lap of his mother Jessica Bennett at the time.
Hundley leaned over and told Ms Bennett to “shut that (N-word) baby up,” an FBI agent who investigated the incident said in a sworn statement.
When the mother asked Hundley what he had said, he leaned over and repeated the racial slur before slapping the toddler and leaving a scratch.
Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman said he imposed the high sentence partly because Hundley has a prior criminal history that included assault.
His lawyer Marcia Shein argued that the jail term was disproportionate.
She said Hundley had been flying to see his only son who was in a coma and had been declared brain dead after overdosing on insulin.
“I made the most terrible day in my life much worse for me and for others,” Hundley told the judge.

Journalist disguised as priest tried to enter Schumacher's hospital room

Journalist disguised as priest tried to enter Schumacher's hospital room

Brain surgeon friend of ex-Formula One driver appeals to journalists not to obstruct work of clinical staff

A journalist dressed up as a priest in order to sneak into the room whereMichael Schumacher (pictured below) was lying in a coma, according to the German media.
Schumacher's manager, Sabine Kehm, told German journalists about the intrusion after a press conference in Grenoble. "Apparently a journalist dressed as a priest had tried to gain access to Michael's room," Kehm told a reporter from Die Welt. "I wouldn't have ever imagined something like this could happen." The intruder was reportedly escorted off the premises after his cover was blown.
Gérard Saillant, a leading Parisian brain surgeon and close friend of Schumacher's, seemed to allude to the incident during the press conference, when he appealed to the assembled journalists not to obstruct the clinical staff's work by cornering them for one-on-one interviews.
"In Corinna's name I would like to ask you not to pressurise us," he said, referring to Schumacher's wife. "Neither us, nor the family. You can do your best to help Schumacher win this difficult battle by leaving the doctors in peace. We are not hiding anything."
The intrusion appears reminiscent of an instance in 1990 when two Sunday Sport journalists dressed as medical staff in order to photograph the 'Allo 'Allo actor Gorden Kaye, who was hospitalised with brain damage after a car accident. The case made legal history in Kaye v Robertson.
In her post-conference chat, Kehm reportedly disputed that Schumacher had been skiing at high speed. She said he had stopped shortly before the accident to help up a friend who had fallen on the slopes. After picking up speed again, he overlooked a rock and lost control, hitting his head on a second rock.
